Your privacy matters. This policy explains what data NostalgiApp collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect the absolute minimum needed to run the app.
1. Who we are
NostalgiApp is developed and operated by Multimodal Solutions, based in Greece. You can reach us at [email protected].
2. Data stored locally on your Mac
The majority of NostalgiApp's data never leaves your computer. This includes:
- Your game library, metadata, artwork, and play-time statistics.
- User preferences, filters, playlists, and favorites.
- Cached thumbnails and filesystem scan results.
- Your parental-lock password — stored only as a salted SHA-256 hash, never the plaintext.
- Save states and save files for your games.
None of this is transmitted to us.
3. Data transmitted to our servers
License validation (LemonSqueezy)
When you activate a license, NostalgiApp sends your license key and a hardware machine ID to our payment processor, LemonSqueezy, to validate your purchase. See LemonSqueezy's privacy policy.
Update checks (Sparkle)
The app periodically fetches https://www.nostalgi.app/appcast.xml to check for updates. Standard web server logs (IP, user agent) apply; we don't correlate them with users.
Crowdsourced game fixes
When a game fix is successfully applied and you confirm it, the fix record (game title, corrected launch command, working directory) is uploaded to https://www.nostalgi.app/api/game-fixes so all other users can benefit. No personally identifying information is included.
Log uploads (opt-in)
If you use Help → Upload Logs for Analysis…, anonymized logs are sent to our logging server at https://logs.multimodalsolutions.gr. Before upload, usernames and hostnames are redacted from the log contents. Log uploads are always explicit — we never upload logs without you clicking the button.
ScreenScraper and RetroAchievements (optional)
If you connect your ScreenScraper or RetroAchievements accounts, NostalgiApp communicates with those services using the credentials you provide. We don't store or see those credentials — they're kept in macOS UserDefaults on your Mac.
4. Analytics
The nostalgi.app website uses Google Analytics and the Reddit Pixel to understand how visitors find the site. These are website-only; the NostalgiApp application itself does not contain any tracking or analytics SDKs.
5. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, rectify, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to its processing. Since we store very little (essentially just license activation records tied to your license key and machine ID), these requests are simple to fulfill. Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days.
6. Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for substantial changes, mention it in the app's changelog.
7. Contact
Privacy questions, data-access requests, or anything else — email [email protected].
